The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 3 February 2021] notes: "Su iglesia, dedicada San Juan Bautista, es renacentista [...] La pila bautismal es románica con veneras y anillo al exterior." Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) [www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_AMAYA.pdf] [accessed 30 June 2021], with suggested date in the 13th century [="Las marcas de una labra a trinchante evidencian una cronología tardía que entra de lleno en pleno siglo XIII."]. ; hemispherical basin ornamented with ribbed pattern, on which, resembling a scroll, is a band on which appears an inscription; the base has a snake eating a toad, a ball, an animal face and a human face; square lower volume of the base. The Enciclopedia dates to the 13th century. There is considerable damage on the sides of the upper rim that used to have the metal staples of the old cover. No cover present.
