Noted and illustrated in Fischer (1918) as part of a group of somewhat similar fonts of English influence; it includes this one as well as those at öja, Götene, Hangelösa, etc. Noted in Hallbäck (1971) and in Dahlberg (1998): one of a group of cylindrical-shaped baptismal fonts of the Romanesque period [cf. Index entries for Källby, Götene, Hangelösa], all from the area around Skara and all ornamented with approximately the same program of a round arcade filled with interlace and cross motifs. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920617F2] as a much-eroded surviving fragment of the basin of a Johannesgruppen baptismal font made of sandstone in the mid-12th century; the SHM entry reports it stored "i ortens fornstuga" [NB: this Synnerby "fornstuga" appears to be an old cottage-like constrution housing a mini-museum for related cultural activities]. There is a 1930 B&W photograph by Sanfrid Welin, in the VGM Foto collection, Västergötlands museum [https://digitaltmuseum.se/021017192546/1m16-a703] [accessed 5 October 2020] that shows a circular stone with a large hole in the centre; it is cylindrical and the location is the churchyard, southwest of the church; it is most likely the plinth of the medieval font [cf. supra]. A baptismal font made of wood in the 18th century is reported in this church.
