Scene Description: the source caption for this photograph reads: "Kestad kyrka. Funt i Fornminnesföreningens museum i Edåsa." It was taken by Ernst Fisher probably ca. 1910 while the Kestad font was on display in the then temporary museum of the Västergötlands fornminnesförening at the parish church of Edåsa -- that church would eventually revert to its liturgical function in 1938, and the contents were then moved to their oiriginal churches, or to the Västergötlands museum when the original church had disappeared

Described and illustrated in Fischer (1918): the baptismal font consists of a cylindrical basin (shaped much like the ones at Hangelösa, Källby, etc., in this area, though the iconographic program is quite different); according to Ernst Fischer, the scenes/figures depicted are: 1)angel; 2)Christ enthroned; 3)St.Peter; 4)St.Michael; 5)animal; 6)Cleric; 7) Agnus Dei; 8) man with cross in hand. Noted in Hallbäck (1971) and in Nordström (1984). Described and ilustrated in Dahlberg (1998). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920529F3] as a Skaragruppen baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century decorated with an arcade of eight round arches populated with scenes, figures and animals. The basin is raised on two (?) plain circular blocks, the lower narrower than the upper.
