Described and illustrated in Garcia Guinea (1979: 292) and (1996: 60-61). García Guinea (1998: 5) describes it as well evolved and of difficult dating, and suggests possibly a cock as the animal fighting the snake. Baptismal font of stone, goblet-shaped basin on a squat round-to-square base; the tapering basin has a wide roll moulding at the upper rim, below which there is a wide band with a variety of several symbols, among which are three 8-petal rosettes, a number of encircled Greek cross, a dragon(?) fighting a snake, etc; on the front(?) and occupying the full height is a Latin cross on a mound, with scrolls issuing from the underarms, the mound with steps; crossed; the round-to-square base has a row of discs all around, although partially damaged. No cover present [NB: the font is now [2020] standing in the chancel, south side, and can be seen from all angles; it had been earlier agaist a wall and some of the carving details were not visible]. [cf. BSI entry for Villamonico No. 1 for an abandoned stone basin in this church, possibly the remains of its medieval font]
