Church Notes: 12thC church(?)
Described and illustrated in García Guinea (1979) and (1996): Romanesque baptismal font similar to the one from Villaescusa de Ebro [cf. Index entry for San Martin de Elines No. 2], with two bands of triangular saw-tooth motif framed between three narrow rope mouldings. Bilbao (1996) suggests this font may be from the same workshop as the font at Crespos (Burgos prov.), and the fonts at Villaescusa de Ebro, Quintanilla de An, Revelillas, and Espinosa de Bricia (Santander prov.) The teeth of the pattern point down in the upper row and up in the lower one; the direction of the thread alternates between the three bands, forward-backward-forward; there is considerable damage to one of the sides of the upper rim; the roughly hemispherical basin is raised on a round pedestal base that has a thick roll moulding atop, and a splaying body. No cover present. The font is now [2020] located at the east end of the nave, byt the chancel steps, towards the south side; obviously not its original location.
