Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Calderón Escalada (1971) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Described in García Guinea (1979) and (1996): like the font originally from Villaescusa de Ebro, the basin has two bands of saw-tooth motif between narrow roll and rope mouldings. The stem of the base is a plain cylindrical pedestal; the plinth is circular and plain. Bilbao (1996) suggests this font may be from the same workshop as the font at Crespos (Burgos prov.), and the fonts at Villaescusa de Ebro, Revelillas, Ruijas and Espinosa de Bricia (Santander prov.) Noted in Huerta Huerta (Enciclopedia del Romanico en Castilla y Leon) as a group of cognate fonts at: "Lomas de Villamediana, Villamediana de Lomas, Linares de Bricia, Crespos, Quintanilla-Colina y Brullés, [...] Villaescusa de Ebro [now in] San Martín de Elines), Quin[t]anilla de An, Revelillas, Ruijas, Espinosa de Bricia, Repudio y Salcedo." The entry in the digital Enciclopedia [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/cantabria_QUINTANILLA_DE_AN.pdf] [accessed 23 Februay 2023] notes: "pila bautismal románica, del tipo de dientes de lobo y sogueado. Es buena pieza, de forma semiesférica, con las siguientes medidas: altura total, 96 cm; diámetro, 93 cm; cuba, 57cm. El pie cilíndrico primero marca, con bastante desgaste, arquillos de arcaduras rebajadas. El artesanado de la iglesia es, al parecer, del siglo XVI, de recuerdo mudéjar, con pinturas populares en los casetones, de esvásticas, rosetas de varios pétalos inscritas en círculos, etc."
