Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Tynell (1913) who puts this sandstone font in the 'Hörsgruppen'. Rydbeck (1936) notes about this font in the context of an Oxie-Glostorsgruppen in her chapter dedicated to fonts and other sculpture by the Mårten workshop. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900808F3] as a 'Mårtensgruppen' baptismal font made of sandstone in the late-12th century; the basin is original but the base is a modern replacement. There are three zoomachia scenes around the sides of the basin; in all three it is an armed centaur that attacks a lion that appears to be eating bunhed fruit; in two of the scenes a centaur armed with a sword in its right hand holds the tail of the lion with the left; in the third scene the centaur is armed with a weapon that has a long handle, while its right hand holds the leg of the fleeing lion; there are complex vegetal patterns in the blank spaces among the animals, some with large [grape?] plants with palmettes and bearing fruit bunches; one of the centaurs has long braided hair; an earlier base is seen in some early-20th century(?) photographs of the font [cf. ImagesArea], roughly cylindrical, with a thick moulding atop and thick fluting around the sides in a zig-zag pattern; the present base is a modern replacement. No cover present.
[NB: the entry for Barstorp in Svenska Kyrkan [https://www.kyrkoguiderlundsstift.se/skane_282_text.html] [accessed 2 November 2025] notes that materials from the Barstorp church, including possibly the 12th-century baptismal font by Oxiemästaren were re-used at nearby Glostorp: "Det äldsta bevarade inventariet i kyrkan är dopfunten från mitten av 1100-talet tillverkad av den så kallade Oxiemästaren, som uppfört ett flertal kyrkor på söderslätt."
