Font Notes:
Corblet (1881-1882), the oldest source, describes this as an octagonal font with a trilobed arch containing "une figure de saint" on each side, and dates it to the 12th century (Corblet, 1881-1882, v. 2, p. 123). Enlart (1902) includes the font at Lhuitre [sic] in a group of 13th century footless tub-shaped fonts (octagonal) ornamented with an arcade "avec statutettes"; in a later reference Enlart describes the figures as Christ surrounded by the Apostles and dates the font "vers 1200" (Enlart, 1902). Pudelko's depiction of the font shows only three sides of the footless font, each with a three-lobe arch and a standing figure in it. The upper rim has a foliage motif (Pudelko, 1932). Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM10001004]: "Fonts baptismaux […] Calcaire […] Octogonaux. La cuve est doublée à l'intérieur d'un récipient en étain. La vasque en bronze, elle est associée à un couvercle en demi-cercle. La cuve repose sur deux assises de pierres visiblement plus récentes que les fonts baptismaux. Chaque face de la cuve est décorée d'un personnage représenté en moyen-relief. […] Cuve : saint abbé, saint Jean, saint Paul, saint Pierre, sainte martyre, sainte au livre. […] Limite 13e siècle 14e siècle (?) […] Mauvaises conditions de conservation". [NB: recent [2015] photographs [cf. ImagesArea] show the font has been much restored]
