Noted and illustrated in Montelius & Brusewitz (1878), where the font appears without a base [NB: M&B use 'Thorsby']. Noted and illustrated in Hallbäck (1961) as a baptismal font made of mica [= "glimmernejs"] in the first half of the 12th century by a "Torsbymästaren"; the author identifies 1)Christ surrounded by vines; 2)the Baptism of Christ; 3)the Harrowing of Hell; 4)possibly the Resurrection; 5)Adam and Eve; the author suggests that this font and the one at Mo, in the same county, are by the same hand. Nordström (1984) notes that there is a complete cycle of the story of Adam and Eve on this font. Noted and illustrated in the SHM database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 930709F1] as a baptismal font made of gneiss in the second half of the 12th century; the SHM describes the decoration as including an arcade of six arches fith figure scenes, plus an additional Fall of Man scene that is not framed in the arcade; the SHM entry notes Hallbäck's attribution to a "Torsbymästaren" but it lsts it as "Upphovsman oidentifierad". The font is a round tapering tub decorated with a stark Crucifixion scene in one of the arches, followed by the Adam-and-Eve cycle noted in Nordström around the sides; the scene to the right of the Crucifixion is probably the creation of Adam (?), in which God holds a large cross; some of the scenes are hard to identify [e.g.: is one the Baptism of Christ?; another, the Harrowing of Hell?]; the scenes are displayed sandwiched between two rope mouldings; the individual scenes are framed in arches of loose form, both arch-heads and columns; the spandrels are decorated with varied motifs. The old basin is raised on a later wooden support. There is a baptismal dish in lieu of cover. The font is now located by the presbitery, to the south side of the altar.
