Font Notes:
Described and partially illustrated in Cornell (1918) as the surviving octagonal sandstone basin of a baptismal font of the 12th century [NB: Cornell mentions specificaly a basin and does not include a base in the description or illustration], decorated with an arcade containing the follwing scenes: 1)Annunciation; 2)Visitation; 3)Nativity; 4)Flight to Egypt; 5)Three Kings on their way to Bethlehem; 6)Adoration of the Kings; 7)Ascension of Christ; 8)Christ in Majesty; Cornell (ibid.) reports the carving on the sides much weathered, and the realiefs on the underbowl practically unreadable. Cornell (ibid.) notes that this font is similar to those by that "Häradskistans mästare (Roosval mäster Majestatis)", and that it can be safely dated to the second half of the 12th century. Nordstrom (1984) reports a Christ in Majesty scene on this font. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900528F1] as a baptismal font made of sandstone and dated to the first half of the 13th century; the very battered and partly reconstructed font consists of an octagonal basin decorated with an arcade of round arches on pillars with capitals and bases, each arch containing a scene; Karlsson (ibid.) identifies five scenes from the Childhood of Christ cycle: Annunciation, Visitation, Dream of Joseph, Nativity and Annunciation to the Shepherds [cf. Cornell supra]; Karlsson (ibid.) further identifies another scene as Christ in Majesty with two cherubim, in another of the arches of the basin side [NB: the Visitation and Joseph's dream share one arch, which leaves three arches unaccounted for]; the basin is raised on a partly reconstructed round base on which Karlsson (ibid.) identifies St. Matthew the Evangelist.
