Described and illustrated in García Guinea (1990) and (1998); also in Martín González (1977-1980); in Guerra (1986 c1978); in Bilbao (1996.) and others [NB: Bilbao (ibid.) lists this basin as hemispheric; it is bucket-shaped]. García Guinea (1998) informs that the font was restored by the Centro de Estudios del Románico, and, although the figures of the font appear somewhat earlier, dates the font to the late 12th or early 13th century. On-site notes: an acanthus vine decorates the rim around the bucket-shaped bowl. The restored basin sides show the (some?) Apostles, each in his corresponding arch, carrying what appear to be the distinguishing symbols [two of the figures break the pattern and may not be apostles] [cf. Garcia Guinea's monograph of 1991 for a photograph of the font in its pre-restoration state]; a 13th figure appears to be the Virgin; Christ appears enthroned and wearing a halo with a cross -though very deteriorated; an iron reinforcement ring is fitted around the upper basin side. The lower base is plain, byut there is a double rope moulding around the lower basin. The three plinths total a height of 61 cm. [added in January 2010: the font has been restored (again?) and looks drastically different from the time of our visit in 1997; the lower end of the basin has been re-done by apparently removing all the earlier patches; it now, 2 August 2008, sits on a bed of gravel (!)] [NB: according to the local priest, it is now impossible to use this font since there is nowhere to comfortably congregate around the font and he has difficulty reaching over the font since the plinths are not wide enough to stand on]. Noted and illustrated in Martín Jiménez (2008). [NB: the drastic restoration of 2008 has eliminated many of the features that were visible earlier, including most of the details of the heads; it has also removed part of the lower end of the font, perhaps an addition of an earlier restoration?] There is a smaller bucket-shaped stoup near the font; probably medieval.
