Erik Tuneld's Geografi öfver Konungariket Sverige: Småland, Gottland och Öland (1832: 1125) mentions a baptismal font with images and Runes in Hossmo. Described and illustrated by William Andersson in Roosval (1917) [NB: the font must have been returned to the church since]. In Blomqvist (1929) as a Sighraf font by master Jacob with an inscription. Jansson (1987: 171) records the Runic inscription and provides an English translation [cf. below] that names "Jakob" as the maker of the font. Inventoried and illustrated in Borg (2002) as a baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1180, bearing an inscription in Runics [cf. supra]; Borg gives the Swedish translation. Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 950516F1] as a baptismal font made of sandstone by master Jacob in the late-13th century. The font consists of a cylindrical basin plain but for a running inscription in Runic characters around the upper rim side [cf. supra]; the base is round to square, with a roll moulding at the top; four human figures decorate the corners of the base: a bearded male, perhaps a cleric; a female with long braids; a bearded male wearing long robes [very damaged]; a figure wearing long robes and a bag with a rope-strap across the chest; its face has been totally chiselled(?) off; on the lower sides, between the figures, are four large scallops. No cover present but the church has(?) three baptismal dishes for the font [cf. ImagesArea].
