Noted in Montelius & Brusewitz (1878) with regards specific Runic characters of the inscription. Noted in Roosval's "Dopfuntar I Statens Historiska Museum" (1917). Noted in Hallbäck (1966). Nordström (1984) notes the four crosses on this font. Described and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [951010F2] as a sandstone baptismal font of ca. 1200 bearing a Runic inscription identifying its maker (?): "Andreas gjorde karet". The SHM record (ibid.) gives the accession year 1870. On-site notes (at the SHM): font carved from two pieces of sandstone; basin is round inside, square outside; base has a square bottom with tapered sides inward toward the centre ring which is also square; sides of the font decorated with several patterns of ornamentation, heads and symbols, including an eagle and an Agnus Dei; the Museum label gives the transcription of the Runes and dates the font to the late-12th century. [NB: the font at the new church in Gällstad, Gällstads och Södra Säms kyrka, was made of soapstone in the 17th century] [cf. BSI entry for Södra Säm for the other medieval church nearby]
