Described and illustrated in Roosval (1917) with date in the 13th century; Roosval mentions a lion on the lower base. Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 950517F7] as "Dalslandsgruppen" baptismal font made of soapstone in the late-12th century. Described and illustrated in the Statens Historiska Museum inventory [http://mis.historiska.se/mis/sok/fid.asp?fid=94246] [accessed 8 October 2012]. Small one-piece chalice shaped font ornamented with an acanthus motif pattern covering all of the basin and base; at the upper rim of the basin is a rope moulding; there is a central drainage hole through the basin and base. [Roosval's notes to be added]. [NB: at the time of BSI's visits, 16 June 1997 and 28 August 2012, this font was in the Statens Historiska Museum [now National Historiska Museum, in Stockholm -- some of these museum fonts have later been returned to their original churches]. The stone of the font is identified on the NHM label as soapstone. The present font at Blomskog church is an octagonal basin raised on eight thick scroll ribs and a centre shaft; the font is painted. The Svenska kyrkan web site [http://silbodalspastorat.se/vara-kyrkor-2/blomskogs-kyrka/] [accessed 10 September 2012] notes: "Dopfunten i Blomskogs gamla kyrka. När intendent Djurklou besökte Blomskog vid mitten av 1860-talet fanns i sakristian en smäckert utformad dopfunt av tälj sten. Den var cirka 4,2 decimeter hög och hade en cirka 5,4 decimeter bred dopskål. Såväl skålen som foten var rikt ornamenterad. Tillsammans med tidigare omnämnt portalöverstycke överlämnades dopfunten till Statens Historiska Museum." The font in the new Blomkog's church is located in the southeast corner of the nave; it is modern and made of wood.
