Church Notes: stunningly painted interior of the church, the work of Albertus Pictor [Albrekt Ymmenhusen] in the late 15thC
Noted and illustrated in the Kulturmiljöbild, Riksantikvarieämbetet [ref.: 1273-179 and 1273-180]: "Dopfunt av gotländsk sandsten. Cuppan med avtrubbat konisk botten och cylindriskt liv. Har varit indelad i arkader, med scener ur Kristi liv. På foten hörnfigurer. Svårt vittrad. Utförd av gotlänningen Sigrafr under sent 1100-tal." On-site notes: the font is very badly worn. There are no discernible images, except for only four figures at the corners of the square base below a roll moulding. When the measurements are examined the very worn state of the font must taken into consideration. Only one full shot of the font was taken. There is a central hole in the bowl for drainage. No Plinth and no evidence that it was once painted. There are rust marks inside the bowl, it has worn down in a very regular manner, indicating that it was probably used to hold water for a long period of time outside of the church. It is usually attributed to the Sighraf workshop of Gotland and described as having had scenes from the life of Christ.
