B.M. Hildebrand (1864) illustrates the font and reports it as being already at the Statens Historiska Museum, Stockholm, in 1862. Illustrated in H. Hildebrand (1907) [NB: Hildebrand uses the spelling "Svanhals"]. Described and illustratdd in Roosval (1917) and (1918). Listed in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font of the Bestiarius workshop (Group 1). Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 950518F4] as a baptismal font made of sandstone by Bestiarius in the late-12th century. Noted and illustrated in Ullén & Ljungstedt (2003). On-site notes: cylindrical basin decorated with eight fancy animals and many symbols which appear frequently on Bestiarius' fonts; each of the eight animals is inside and arch of the arcade of eight round arches made of beaded tape around the basin sides; all the animals have long tail-like tongues, some of which resemble plants; on the underside of the bowl there is an arcade of nine beaded-tape arches, the inside of the arches and the spandrels filled with acanthus motifs. The font is cut from two blocks of stone. Richly carved acanthus motifs ornament the base of the font and also the spandrels of the arcades of the underbowl; there is damage to the upper part and lower parts of the base; the repair appears already recorded in Hildebrand's drawing of late 19th century.
