Noted in Cornell (1918). Illustrated in Källström (1948); he gives the location as the SHM in Stockholm. Noted in M. Blindheim's Fra hedensk sagnfigur til kristet forbilde (in ICO, 1973). Noted in A. Andersson's The inhabited scroll och dess innebörd i nordisk funtikonografi Fra Sankt Olav til Martin Luther (1975). In Karlsson (1976). Nordström (1984) identifies a scene with Gunnar and the Serpents legend among other ornamentation. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 901129F1] as a baptismal font made of of single block from a tree trunk of pine ca. 1200; the SHM entry further points out that in some early sources this font is given its location as the nearby church in Lockne; the SHM notes the similarities of the base carvings with examples from Norway. On-site notes at the SHM: this font was for many years at the Statens historiska museum of Stockholm; it was then loaned to the Ostersund Museum, and returned again to SHM, where it is now [2012] a permanent exhibit. The round basin has a wide band of interlace carvings between two mouldings at the upper and lower ends; two vines stem from the a monstruous lion-like head and form seven circles of interlaced vines around the basin; the carving is exhuberant and the vegetation interacts with the six 'beings' that populate the circles; to the right of the lion, in the first circle is Gunnar in the serpents' pit, being bitten by multiple snakes while he plays the harp [a lyre?] with his feet; the vines interlace around the rest of the basin forming five further circles and entangling the bodies of the other fibe creatures. The chalice-shaped font is made from a single block of oak, deeply carved; the inside of the basin has a central hole in the bowl for drainage, although one would assume there would have been a lining with it. Six circles with intertwined foilage are carved around the sides of the bowl. The conical base has a thick roll moulding at the top and a band of carved interlaced vine motif on the sides below.
