Country Name: Sweden
Location: Småland, Jönköpings län

Font Location in Church: Inside the church, in the SE corner, right of the altar
Century and Period: 12th - 13th century, Late Romanesque
Workshop/Group/Artisan: Huvudmästarnas efterföljare [Blomqvist] / Lekerydsgruppen [Borg] / Bestiariusgruppen / attributed to the Lekerydsmästaren, in the Bestiarius workshop [Drake]
Cognate Fonts: the font at Vireda [cf. FontNotes]; other fonts in the groups noted
Church Notes: 12thC church; re-built 19thC
Noted and illustrated in Blomqvist (1929) in his chapter on the 'Huvudmästarnas efterföljare' fonts. Inventoried and illustrated in Borg (2002) as a baptismal font in the 'Lekerydsgruppen' made of sandstobe between 1170 and 1220. Nordström (1984: 118) identifies a scene of St. Lawrence's martyrdom on this font. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910618F4] , as a sandstone baptismal font of the 'Bestiariusgruppen' with date in the 12th century; the figure with the banner and cross is identified as a pelikan. Listed in Drake (2002: 183) as one of several baptismal fonts "[a]ttributed to the Bestiarius workshop but not verified". The basin is decorated with a braid moulding all around, just below the upper rim; an arcade of ten round arches is supported on very short columns but the 'capitals' are very round, large, totally disproportionate, as in the Vireda font, and inscribe floral, foliage and cross motifs in them; the spandrels of the arcade are populated with triquetra-like motifs; inside the arches are: a human figure standing facing the right; a similar figure standing, facing the left; a pelikan with banner; a quadruped passant-regardant; a human figure standing and holding what looks like a mini-grill [identified as St Lawrence]; a dragon(?) passant to the right; a bird(?) passant to the right; an odd-looking quadruped passant to the right bears a cross and banner, therefore Agnus Dei?; the last arch framing two little human figures facing each other up a pole; the lower moulding of the basin panels includes little circles or beads, as does the font at Vireda, and, also as in that font, a row of huamn faces or masks is framed between a rope moulding at the top and a roll moulding below.
