Scene Description: although the KMB gives no other details about this image than the date, 1928, and the name of the photographer, Erik Salvén, there must have been a major restoration of the church in process at the time; it appears that the font had already been removed from under the pulpit -which it supported previously- and other changes were being made to the chancel area

Baptismal font noted in Hallbäck (1966). Nordström (1967) notes the Crucifixion in on this font. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920608F1] as a sandstone font of the 12th century decorated with a Crucifixion and animal figures. On-site notes: Crucifixion scene with just Christ on a broad flat cross; the bottom end of the cross stands on a large round head with long extended arms, but no body [Karlsson (SHM...] captions it "Kristus på korset och Terra?"]; lion passant on the left; several quadrupeds, some probably lions, one perhaps a horse (?) and one avian also on the sides; the short pedestal base, decorated with a roll moulding is part of the same block as the basin; it is now raised on a short round plinth that appears modern. An early but undated [pre-1928] photograph at the Kulturmiljöbild, Riksantikvarieämbetet [KMB_-_1600020016844] shows the font being used as the base of the pulpit at one point; another KMB photograph taken in 1928 [KMB_-_16000200168383] shows a restoration of the church interior in process, with the font on its side on timbers on the chancel floor.
