There is a drawing [ca. 1820-1880] of this font in Dr. I. G. Burman Beckers antiqvarisk-topografiske Samling, Kirker på Fyn, Langeland, Lolland og Falster, Billedsamlingen. Album 65, 2+° in the Det Kgl. Biblioteks billedsamling [www5.kb.dk/images/billed/2010/okt/billeder/object568309/da/] [accessed 8 June 2021]. Noted in Mackeprang (1941) [cf. infra]. Briefly described and illustrated in Benzon (1973: p. 226-rettlesesblad), who typifies it as "Midtfynsk type med figurer". Described and illustrated in Danmarks kirker [http://danmarkskirker.natmus.dk/uploads/tx_tcchurchsearch/Odense_3925-3980.pdf], which refers to Mackeprang [cf. supra] and notes some similarities with the fonts at Aastrup (Svendborg Amt), perhaps by the Hvicmanne workshop; the DK entry reports that the font had been previously located benath the tower, in its own latticed enclosure, but was later moved to its present location in the chancel. The baptismal dish ia identified in the DK entry [cf. supra as a work made in Nuremberg and acquired by the church after 1677. On-site notes: the granite font has dark spots around the upper bowl from the seapage of the water through the stone. The basin sides are ornamented with scenes of the legend of St. Nicholas, as well as one scene with the Baptism of Christ. St. Nicholas, a tall figure holding three balls and with a purse in his left hand - along with two small men, each of them holding a stick; the first man, who is wearing a conical hat [a Jews hat], to whom St. Nicholas is handing over a small cross just above a baptismal font [cf. ImageArea for the full iconographic program]. A vine runs along the upper and lower sides of the basin filling in the empty spaces. The lower rim of the basin has a circle motif all around; rope moulding on the underbowl; the lower base has a head at each angle -two human, two animal- with a pendant-like scallop pattern between the heads. No font cover present.
