Baptismal font noted in Hallbäck (1971). Nordstrom (1984) mentions a baptism scene on this font. Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.:: 920707F2] made of sandstone [other sources give limestone] in the late-12th century decorated with an arcade of eight arches housing a Baptism of Christ scene and other holy figures. Baptismal font consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with scenes (?) housed in an arcade of eight round arches; one of the scenes, the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan, occupies two of the arches; the others have haloed unidentified figures [Apostles? Saints?] and one angel; the arcade is made of round arches with multiple arch-heads, some of them not entirely closed, resembling palm trees in which the trunk is the column that supports the arches; the one in the middle of the Baptism scene is broken off to allow for the hands of the figure on the left [John the Baptist?] to come close to Christ's head in the other arch; raised on a round pedestal base with multiple roll mouldings, and a plinth with kneeling stone. The font is much damaged around the upper rim and has large vertical through cracks on the sides, all now repaired. No font cover present.
