On-site notes: the font is carved from granite; two pieces; it is chalice-shaped, a roughly cylindrical basin on a round-to-square base; the basin is decorated with an arcade of seven trefoiled arches without capitals or bases, but with very large spandrels decorated with a number of symbols and motifs; the arches contain a scene of the Adoration of the Magi (in 4 arches - the kings walk from left to right), two Apostles, one of which is Peter with a large key resting on his shoulder, the other, unidentified, holding a book; next comes a haloed figure that is probably Christ; the base is round-to-square, with a roll moulding atop; large semicircle arches of braided or rope motif on the sides have human heads in the spandrels; inside the arches are a fleur de lis, an Agnus Dei with cross, a large plant representing probably a Tree of Life, and a large cross on a small mound; the inside well of the basin has been cemented over, therefore it is not possible to take the original measurements; there is no drain visible any longer, nor is there a cover, but some of the cemented repairs may have covered damage caused by the hardware of an earlier font cover. [NB: there appears to have been a reduction of the upper section of the basin, around the upper rim, as the arches are all missing their tops; this is sometimes done when considerable damage to that area is caused by cover hardware]. The lower base also appears to have been added to (1-3 cm?) at the bottom.
