Listed in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font from the Calcarius workshop. On-site notes [four BSI visits: 1997, 2002, 2010, 2023]: beautiful cylindrical Romanesque font, the base square; the font, which is in excellent condition, has also a very interesting iconographic program: scenes from the Life of Christ cycle (the three Magi, Massacre of the Innocents, arrest of Christ, Crucifixion, etc.) ornament the basin sides; the underbowl has eagles "climbing" up, their claws grappling the lower moulding of the basin sides; the base is square and has human figures at the corners (bishop, St. Peter, devil?, etc.), and animal motifs on the sides of the base, one scene of a fight between a rampant lion (on the left) and a dragon (on the right); another is identified in Carlsson (1976) as "an ape pulling his beard" [NB: the figure is actually human; seen from the side of the pair of birds there is sight of some of his clothing; is it a troll or dwarf?]
