On-site notes: the font is in excellent condition. The octagonal shaped bowl is very similar to the later fonts which appear in England in the fourteenth century concerning the sacraments, although the iconography and program of this font is earlier. The motifs used on the underside of the upper bowl are also unusual. The bowl is in better condition than the base. The base has four heads: one man pulling his mustache, and three beasts; it is very worn and appears to be a different style from the basin. The programme on the basin contains L-->R: E: Crucifixion; NE: Harrowing of Hell; N: Arrest of Christ; NW+SW: Flight to Egypt; W: Nativity with Joseph; S+SE: Adoration of the Magi. The underbowl sides include L-->R: E: beast riding beast; NE: false prophet: wolf in sheep's clothing; N: tree with two birds; NW+W: two horses fighting; SW: bird, peacok?; S: squirrel; SE: tree with two birds. The base sides include: L-->R: E: human head with tongue sticking out; W: snake(?) eating small prey; S: animal head (feline?) with tongue sticking out; E: damaged head [cf. ImagesArea for the full iconographic program].
