Scene Description: Joseph sits on a carved chair, with his back to the Nativity scene, wears a tiered, conical cap and ornate belt. In his right hand he holds a staff and places his left hand against the side of his face. The hand of God appears above the Nativity scene but points diagonally across to the figure of Joseph. Font Notes:
Noted and illustrated in Tynell (1913-1921) as the basin of a baptismal font made of sandstone, with a full description of the motifs and scenes on the basin sides; the base is reported lost. Described and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936) in her 'Calcarius och Knislingemästeren'. Noted in Nordström (1984). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900806F3] as the basin of a 'Knislingegruppen' baptismal font made of sandstone in the first half of the 13th century; the base is reported lost and replaced by a modern one, round-to-square in shape. On-ste notes: chalice-shaped font ornamented with Childhood of Christ scenes; the roughly cylindrical basin is round with vertical sides; the underbowl has broad concave ribbed pattern; the whole round-to-square base is modern; the stem of the base is short, a moulding really, and the lower base is square, with spurs at the angles. No cover present.
