Described and illustrated [drawing] in Brunius (1850) as a baptismal font of sandstone decorated with several scenes around the basin on a quadrangular base decorated with a human bust, an animal and two floral/foliage motifs on its sides. In Rydbeck (1936) as the work of the "Mästaren från Soest". Ljungman (1993: 17-20 and caption for fig.17) describes and illustrates the font at the parish church of Saxtorp as "the only one of its kind". The rounded basin shows several haloed figures depicted amidst foliage, one has a cruciferous nimbus and holds a scroll in his left hand while the right hand is raised in benediction, obviously Christ; there are at least two angels to his side; the lower edge of the basin has a thin rope motif. The square base "has on its foot the Lamb with a cross-halo, leading the way to 'the Fountains of Life'", a scene which Ljungman refers to an illustration of the Bamberg's Apocalypse (ibid., p. 18-19, fig. 18). Listed and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900618F3] [accessed 26 August 2024] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the 12th century: decorated with scenes of the Visitation, Annunciation, Christ and angels on the basin; the square base has a human bust orant and an Agnus Dei on its sides.
