The medieval font here is described and illustrated in Tynell (1913-1921: 10-11 and pl. XXXV: 1-4): medieval baptismal font of the Ösjö group; quadrangular basin with corner figures and scenes on the side panels [Tynell gives the location as "Lunds univ. hist. museum" already ca. 1913]. Described and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936) in her section on the Mörarpsgruppen fonts. Nordström (1984: 51, 54) identifies St. Michael's fight with the dragon; he also suggests (ibid., p. 110) a possible Presentation at the church, a Fall of Man (ibid., p. 126), and argues against Tynell's identification of a baptism scene: "in my opinion more likely the circumcision or presentation of Christ" (ibid. 163 fn19). Drake (2002: 148, 184) suggests an identification of the corner figures as: St. Peter, possibly St. Paul, and two putative bishops; for the panels Drake (ibid.) suggests the Annunciation, the Fall, St. Michael killing the dragon and an added figure reaching in, and the Presentation ro the church. Drake (ibid. p. 148 fn 89) quotes M. Rydbeck (1936: 385) as making the font at Kropp the oldest of this group [ca. 1150] and a model for the others. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900509F1] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the first half of the 12th century; the SHM entry notes that its overall design is reminiscent of the one seen on 'Mörarpsgruppen' fonts, but the motifs and figural representation is totally different and more archaic; also that the scene described in the SHM entry as 'baptismal' has otherwise been interpreted as the Presentation in the temple'; the SHM entry reports the font at the Lunds universitets historiska museum. On-site notes: Romanesque font with trapezoidal basin and base, now [June 1997] located in the Lunds universitets historiska museum [NB: apparently the font was sold to the University in the past]. The basin has four sides and four protruding figures, one at each angle. The scenes on the sides appear to be: 1)baptism: a woman holds an infant over a font while a priest stands opposite holding a book and wearing a stole; 2)the Flagellation of Christ; 3)St. Michael fighting the dragon, and what appears to be a winged woman or angel in the adjacent arch; 4)two human figures in adajacent arches; they both appear to be naked, and may be a Fall of Man scene [NB: this is the most damaged/eroded side of the font]. The corner figures are: i)cleric/bishop/priest giving benediction; ii)saintly figure with sword; St. Paul?; iii)saintly figure with keys; St. Peter?; iv)second cleric/bishop/priest giving benediction. Carlsson (1976: 126) mentions the lion (?) heads with snakes/dragons in their jaws on the base, and describes this font as being from the Tove master's workshop. The present font in this church is from 1666, made of wood; it supports a brass baptismal dish of the 16th century; there is also a baptismal (?) bowl made of silver in 1727. The Museum has a 3D model created by Sebastiaan van der Gaag & Sjoerd van Riel. on Sketchfab [www.historiskamuseet.lu.se/article/3d-modeller-av-foremal-i-museet] [accessed 10 December 2016] -- view it in https://sketchfab.com/models/ef765dd8eaff484db2dcb3220150e3f9 [accessed 10 December 2016]
