Illustrated in Hildebrand (1907). The font is illustrated in Alice Trolle's En bok om Östergötland (Stockholm: Norstedt & Söner, 1915). Described and illustrated by Erik Lundberg, in Roosval (1917), where he describes the bowl as carved from Kolmards marble and the base from Gotland sandstone. Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920801F1]. Noted and illustrated in Ullén & Ljungstedt (2003): "The bowl is cut in Kolmårdmarble and th erelief scenes recall the Romanesque bowl [sic; bold?] reliefs and figurative work of the Gotlandic master “Hegvald”. The high quality of the stone carving suggests a master carver from the cathedral workshop, most likely of Gotlandic origin and well-versed in the Gotlandic font-carving tradition. The choice of difficult-to-work marble is due to the unsuitability of the more usually employed local Ortocer limestone for works of such a large size." The basin is quatrefoil, like the one at Hede (Bohuslan) but with a rounded underbowl. Like the former, the sides of this one are decorated with an arcade of round arches with scenes within them: Old Testament scenes: Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, etc. Roosval says the base is similar to the Majestatis type, like those found at Lokrume and Vastkinde on Gotland: four very worn heads at 90-degree angles hold in their mouths a "snake" that circles all around the base; at the sides between the heads, the "snake" ends in lion (?) heads. There is also a mid-20th century glass font by Kurt von Schmalensee. [NB: there was a replica copy of this font at the remote storage warehouse of the SHM, which we visited and photographed 18 June 1997].
