Noted and illustrated in Brunius (1850). The base is round with a large ring atop and three large protruding figures at 120-degree angles; between the figures, motifs in low-relief. Illustrated in an 1876 drawing by Olof Sörling and a 1877 drawing by A.J. Nordström [cf. ImagesArea for both]. In Hildebrand (1898- ). Illustrated in Tynell (1913-1921) as a baptismal font of sandstone, with a long description of its details; Tynell finds similarities of its base with that on the Östra Hoby font. Described and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936), in her section on the Tryde master. Ljungman (1993: 11) describes the base figures as: lion blaspheming (because it sticks its tongue out?), woman with cross-marked headgear holding infant, and beast with its prey. Cylindrical mounted sandstone baptismal font attributed to the Majestatis [or Tryde] master and dated to ca. 1160-1170 by Roosval (1918: 166); besides the mandatory scene of the Majestas Domini, the basin sides have scenes of the Passion of Christ and of the Resurrection-to-Pentecost cycle. The underbowl has scenes that include the Etimasia and the legend of St. Olaf, although the identity of the latter has been argued against by Lidén (1998: 66-81); her argument being that "a comparison with all the legend pictures of the Olaf iconography, however, shows that this interpretation is incorrect both as regards picture and text." Markus (1998: 82-94) describes the iconographic program on this font as "connected to a liturgical document, Ordinale Sancti Kanuti Ducis et Martyris, written for the feast at Ringsted in 1170, when King Waldemar's father was canonized." Markus argues that Waldemar saw his father's canonization as a way to secure his own rights to the throne, therefore "the pictorial suite on the Löderup font canm be seen as a homage to the ruling Danish royal family" and suggests that this baptismal font "was commissioned by the powerful Thrugot family together with King Waldemar and Archbishop Eskil about the year 1170" (ibid., p. 94). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900728F2] as a 'Majestatis' baptismal font made of sandstone on the second half of the 12th century. On-site notes: the font was carved by the Tryde / Majestatis workshop. The underside of the bowl, according to the literature, depicts the legend of St.Olaf, the viking ship - his death and the battle [cf. supra] [cf. ImagesArea and FieldNotes for the full iconographic program].
