Noted in Brunius (1850). Described and illustrated in Tynell (1912-1921) with references to Brunius, Bruzelius and Hildebrand. In Roosval (1918). Described and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936) in her section on the Tryde master. Carlsson (1976: 101) dwels on the base scene in which the two horsemen embrace: he suggests a symbol of strength, "the motif can have been placed at the corner of the base to demonstrate the carrying force on the base on which the bowl rests" (ibid.); he continues, in reference to this embrace scene and to the ones on the Tryde font, that "they may instead illustrate the habit of giving the 'kiss of peace' of the baptism which was practised already in the very Early Church" (ibid.), and suggests that "the embracing men have their origin in Antiquity and became the iconographic sign for concordance already during Roman times" (ibid.). Noted in Nordström (1984). Guerra (1986 c1978: 82: mentions man-eating lions around the base. Ljungman (1993: 10) describes the figures of the base as: false prophet, two bishops and mouth like a lion. In Svanberg (1995 and 2002). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900729F1] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century by Majestatis. On-site notes: the font is in excellent condition; there are scenes on the sides of the bowl, underside and in between the four heads on the base; the font is in two pieces and has a centre drain [cf. Images section and FieldNotes for the full iconographic program].
