Noted in Brunius (1850). Roosval (1918) attributes it to the Majestatis master but in a style after Hegvald. Described and illustrated in Tynell (1913-1921) as a font made of south Gotland sandstone; the entry includes a detailed description of the seven scenes on the basin sides, and Tynell (ibid.) remarks on the similarity of the base with that of the Östra Hoby font. Described and illustrated in Rudbeck (1936), in her section on the Tryde master. Noted in Nordstrom (1984) and in Drake (2002). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900710F2] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century; the SHM notes Roosval's attribution [cf. supra], but suggests it may have been a workshop that borrowed from both [="ett verkstadsarbete som lånat drag från båda"]. On-site notes [1997 and 2002]: chalice-shaped Romanesque font believed to be the product of either the Majestatis or the Tryde workshop, made of Gotland sandstone and dated to the 12th or 13th century. On-site notes: the basin sides are divided by an arcade of decorated round arches into seven scenes, the themes being rooted in Genesis: 1)creation of Adam; 2)creation of Eve; 3)Temptation and Fall [note that grapes, and not the usual apple, appear to be the tempting fruit]; 4)God speaks to Adam; 5)Expulsion from Paradise; 6 & 7) both arches represent Adam and Eve working; the underbowl has a scene of St. Michael fighting the dragon, and the four symbols of the Evangelists with haloes; Matthew's angel holds a large banner or scroll; the spaces between the symbols are filled with irregular interlace patterns that convey a sense of functionality and strengh rather than mere decoration; the base has four rather Hegwaldrian animal heads with prey in their mouths, the spaces between them enriched with serpents and vegetation; the plinth is high and sealed to the base of the font. The whole font appears to have been covered in a beige-grey glossy coating; the parts of the font have been permanently cemented together. There is no cover present.
