Scene Description: on the east side of the basin [orientation is approximate] -- Christ in Majesty. To the left stands an angel in profile, facing the right, holding an infant, swaddled in vertical position. Christ in Majesty, cross-haloed and enthroned on rainbow throne, double one, feet on ground, bare, the right hand raised in benediction, the left hand holds a book in the fold of his mantle. The mandorla has no inscription. The scene is framed by four medallions, containing the symbols of the Evangelists. To the right of the mandorla is a figure in profile, facing left, haloed and holding a censer.

Scene Description: on the northeast side of the basin [orientation is approximate] -- This Annunciation is scene very strange. There is a central medallion between the two figures. The dove radiates onto the figure on the right side. The figure on the left, Gabriel is not winged. A lectern separates the two figures. The Virgin on the right holds a book in her arms as she does on the Vall font.. The reference to Christ's birth is implied by the circular medallion, symbolizing "sol victus"(?)

His left arm holds the right hand of an old shepherd sitting on a rock. The old shepherd is also hooded and his left arm holds a staff. Behind the old man is another shepherd also hooded with his right hand pointing up to the sky.

The baby sits on her left knee in profile, face forward, haloed. The infant's hand points to the magi. He holds a scroll in his left hand.

Scene Description: on the southeast side of the basin [orientation is approximate] -- Four figures in this scene. Mary stands to the left,in profile, wears a gown and mantel, haloed, holds the baby by the seat - the child sits in profile, haloed, facing the viewer. His right arm points diagonally up. His feet rest on an altar. Also on the altar is a chalice. On the face of the altar there is an animal figure, probably a lamb painted on it. To the right of the altar, a figure stands in profile,haloed and faces viewer. Gowned, and mantled, the hands hold maybe something? Probably just pointing? The figure to the right in profile, hands not visible, arms are at a 90* angle with body. This scene is separated from the next by an angel which is not part of the PT scene.

Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. I, hft. 3: 211ff) as a sandstone cylindrical mounted baptismal font from the Majestatis workshop and dated to the 1160s by Roosval; the upper two elements, the basin and the stem of the base, both figural and lively painted are made of sandstone; the scenes portrayed on the basin, besides the Majestas Domini, are of the childhood of Christ (Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, etc.). The lower base, also round, is made of limestone and adorned with ring mouldings; of a later date. In Stenström (1975) and Nordström (1984). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910503F2] as a baptismal font made of sandstone (basin) and limestone (base) in the second half of the 12th century by Majestatis; it was painted in the 18th century; it is raised on a modern double plinth. On-site notes: the font is up quite high on its late-date plinths; it is painted, the painting said to have been done in the 18th century, and in good condition. No cover present. [NB: the present font position is not as recorded in SK].
