Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. VII, hft. 4: 73, 74, 107) as the sandstone pedestal base, attributed to the Byzantios workshop and dated to the middle or the second half of the 12th century by Roosval; it has a central drain hole and is ornamented with the usual four heads (two human, one lion's and the other a monster's). [A later font, dated to the mid-17th century and painted in 1662, exists in this church: cf. Index entry for Levide No. 2] -- [NB: for all details and photographs of the old base cf.
