Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (1925- ) as an octagonal mounted sandstone baptismal font attributed to the Byzantios workshop and dated to ca. 1150 by Roosval; the basin has an arcade of round arches resting on very short columns within which are scenes of the childhood of Christ, zoomachia, Spinario, etc. Round pedestal base; upturned recycled carved capital installed as plinth. On-site notes: the base is either from another font or has been drastically recut; it once had four heads, but these have been cut off. The basin has had a scene cut off as well, but is otherwise in fair condition with traces of paint on it. The pictorial narrative moves from left to right: E: Angel holding object; NE: Annunciation; N: St. Helen and Constantine with processional cross; NW: St. George; W: Samson and the lion; SW: Spinario; S: blank [cut off]. The font is a composite of three unmatched pieces; one side of the basin was hacked off at some point, probably to fit it into a tight spot; it now faces the south wall.
