Scene Description: on the northwest side of the basin [orientation is approximate] -- the Thorn Extractor [aka Thorn-puller / Spinario], sits on a rock on the right of the scene, facing left. A woman stands to the left, dressed in long gown, tight waist, long sleeves at the cuff; she wears a head piece of some sort. It is difficult to ascertain which way her face is turned, but her feet point left, away from Spinario. Unfortunately this is a most damaged side and is therefore not possible to discern all the details of the scene.

The two upper blocks, basin and upper base, are sandstone, the lower piece, plinth, is limestone. Basin sides ornamented with the typical Byzantios' arcade of low colums; scenes include angel, centaur, Spinario, etc. Chamfered underbowl, also octagonal. Usual four heads on the stem of the base, at 90-degree angles. Cylindrical lower base/plinth. The photograph in SK (ibid., pl. 303 on p. 268) shows a wooden lid on the font, with cake-like centre part and spindle-shaped finial. In Stenström (1975). Nordström (1984) notes that there is a 13th-century wooden lid preserved from this font. In Svanberg (1995). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910504F2] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century by Byzantions, with paint remains on it; the base is identified as a later part. On-site notes: the font is in good condition with traces of paint, but the lower base has been cut to fit it against the pillar of the tower arch, obviously not its original position; this obscures the view of the west side of the basin; [NB: careful examination of the nrthwest side of the font and its base where the two parts meet shoes that the mounting of the font, as it stands now [1997 and 2012], is incorrect; the cut in the underbowl for the side drain shows a significant displacement from the matched cut in the centre ring of the base. As it is, the cut in the underbowl faces northwest, whereas the cut in the base faces west]; the lower base is also dug into the flooring. The font cover is similar to the one at Väte, also on Gotland.
