Noted in Roosval (1918) as the base of font by Byzantios workshop [NB: Roosval does a comparative study of the heads on the Byzantios bases, but does not give any information on the Hablingbo font itself, presumably disappeared by then]. This base is also noted in Fåhraeus (1974). On-site notes: at the time of our visit [August 2012] the base is stored in the northwest corner of the tower room, a location where the church stores the wheelchair access ramps, etc. The base is typical of the Byzantios workshop: thick roll moulding atop, round body with four protruding heads; two of the heads are broken off, only the stump visible now; of the remaining heads one is a lion, the other is difficult to tell, most likely animal as well; there is an incised inscription in Latin capitals on the lower side of the base [transcription not available]; the roll moulding in the centre ring position is drilled for the usual centre drain hole, but it has also a horizontal opening that appears in some other Gotland fonts [NB: it is not clear whether both holes where contemporary, and what the purpose of having the two would be; if water were released from the basin it would drain chiefly through the vertical hole into the ground, the usual -though not unique- drainage system in medieval fonts, with very little, if any, volume of water exiting via the side; yet, the side hole is much wider]. [cf. Index entry for Hablingbo No. 2 for the 17th-century font in this church]
