Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (1925- ) as an octagonal mounted sandstone baptismal font; identified as being by Byzantios and dated to the mid-12th century by Roosval; the base is a round pedestal ornamented with four protrudings heads identified as a ram's head, a human head, and two lion heads. The basin has an arcade of round arches resting on the typical Byzantios low columns; the round arches contain: "peacocks facing each other", "Samson overcoming the lion", "running bowman", "variation of Samson overcoming the lion", "the Entry into Jerusalem", "mythical beast -an aspic [i.e., aspis]- running off with a man", "lion" and "the Annunciation of Zacharias" (ibid.) Described also in Roosval (1918), Nordström (1984) and Stenström (1975). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910811F2] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the second half of the 12th century by Byzantios; some ater paint remains on it. On-site notes: the font is very worn but many of the iconographic details on the basin are still readable; the motifs between the protruding heads of the base are however no longer discernible; the side drain is rectangular; a large round modern plinth is now under the font. No cover present.
