Described and illustrated in Roosval (1917). In Lagerlöf & Stolt (1973). Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 950517F5] as a "Hegval" baptismal font nade of sandstone in the mid-12th century. On-site notes: this basin is now [June 1997] kept in the Statens Historiska Museum's storage unit, in Stockholm. The base no longer exists. Roosval (1918: 67ff) mentions it in his inventory of the museum, and gives the ornamentation as containing scenes of the Nativity, Christ's baptism, the three Magi approaching an enthroned Christ. Roosval gives the fonts at Nar, Endre, Sjonhem as cognates. Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. VI, hft. 5: 404-40, 446) describes and illustrates "three blocks of sandstone built into the back of the present altar, all with reliefs in circular frames: a griffin, a centaur, and a man with a whisk (?) in his right hand [...]. Parts of a carved circle can be seen on all the stones , which may indicate that, joined together, they may have formed tha base of font or piscina." [NB: a second font -cf. Index entry for Rone No. 2], dated to the mid-17th century, replaced the medieval font]
