Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. IV, hft. 2: 236-248, 251) as a "baptismal font by Hegwaldr", a relic from the church that "existed early in the 12th century, or even earlier." Roosval had dated this font originally to ca. 1100, but later revised his dating to between 1095 and 1130 (ibid., 236n). The font is of sandstone, cylindrical mounted, worn all over, but especially with much damage to the upper part of the basin. Very busy figural ornamentation all over the basin and round pedestal base. On the "upper part of the bowl: two Kings walking; Herod on the throne; the Virgin Mary in bed, and nurse with the Holy Child, and Joseph; the Flight into Egypt. Lower part of bowl: Herod and Herodias on the throne. Base: two men discussing a book; on either side of them are monsters' heads in high relief." (ibid., p. 241, caption to pl. 260). Other scenes illustrated on the basin include the Miracle of the Corn/Harvest, the Massacre of the Innocents, a view of the cradle on top of a cattle-pen, etc. On the underbowl, besides Herod and Herodias are the Magi, a Madonna and Child, etc. The base is a round pedestal ornamented with four protruding heads; though too worn to allow for a clear identification, they appear to be lion/monster heads with snakes in their mouths; besides the two haloed figures discussing with the book, there are three others, all three involving a crowned figure armed with a sword in conversation with other figures.
Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910508F2] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the mid-12th century by Hegvald. On-site notes: the font is badly worn around the upper half of the basin, but it is still possible to identify the various scenes - at least generally [cf. ImagesArea for a full description of the scenes on the basin sides, underbowl and base]. It is a different style than the Hegwaldr font at Sjonhem; this font has a much flatter relief carving - it borders on being a work by Majestatis, or, rather Semi-Majestatis (more than one artisan worked in the Hegwaldr workshop). The pictorial program moves from the left to right (?); there are 12 arches around the sides of the basin. There are another 7 arches on the underside of the bowl. There are four heads on the base with scenes (figures) in between. More than one arch will frame a particular scene - this must be read very carefully; the arches were purely architectural settings rather than narrative divisions. There are traces of paint on the font.
