Scene Description: in the right arch here, barely discernible now, although Mary's bed and the seated figure of Joseph are still outlined on the stone surface [NB: the Nativity is usually positioned between the Visitation and the Adoration of the Magi in the typical arrangement of the Sighraf programs]. The round hole above the scene here has a similar corresponding one at the opposite side of the basin; they may be related to hardware used to anchor an old cover to the basin.

B04: New Testament - Childhood and youth of Christ - three Wise Men - adoration of the kings

Scene Description: although badly damaged and terribly eroded now, these two arches held the Adoration of the Magi, two Magi walking rightwards in the left arch, while the third Magus would appear kneeling in front of the Madonna and Child in the right arch [NB: this scene occurs under two arches like it does at Eke]. The last of the Magus has survived here, his pointed crown, raised right arm, bottom of his garment and feet all still discernible here. In the next arch, at the extreme right, one of the crowned heads has also survived from the Dream of the Magi scene

B05: New Testament - Childhood and youth of Christ - three Wise Men - the three Wise Men are warned in a dream by an angel not to return to Herod

Scene Description: in the left arch here, the heads of the three Magi are discernible at the left of the composition; only the lower head has survived to make the help identify the Three Magi; the bed is visible, as is the angel floating above and to the right, both body and wings visible still. As indicated in the opposite side to this, the large hole near the spandrel may be related to old cover anchoring hardware.

B06: New Testament - Childhood and youth of Christ - Flight to Egypt

Scene Description: Joseph walks ahead of the horse on the right side of the composition. Virgin and Child seated frontal, Mary's halo still visible. Joseph holds a staff and the rest is worn and no longer visible. The horse id richly ornated, as at Eke - saddle and cloth are ornate with details..and the bridle is also ornate.

In Roosval (1918). Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (1927- ) as a sandstone Romanesque baptismal font attributed to the Sighraf workshop and dated to ca. 1200; like Sighraf's other works, it consists of two pieces: a cylindrical basin with a patterned underbowl. and a square pedestal base; the basin sides are covered in an arcade of round arches containing scenes of the childhood of Christ [cf. Iconographic area below for details]; the underbowl is covered in a diaper pattern. The base has four corner figures and a centre ring; this ring has the same ornamental motif as the underbowl. The same source (ibid.) informs of a circular stone believed to be the plinth of this font being located by the east wall of the parish storehouse ca. 1898. The font, the stone of which is described in the same source (ibid.) as "in a bad state of decomposition"; it had been garishly painted in blue, white, red and black in 1728; the painting on the basin did not correspond to the images underneath; the paint was removed in 1971, after the font had been repaired in 1958 by Henna Karlsson, stonemaster at Slite [NB: photographs of the font before the removal of the paint was carried out were taken by Einar Erici in 1916 and are available at the Kulturmiljöbild, Riksantikvarieämbetet site [cf. ImagesArea]]. In Stenström (1975). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 910825F1] as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the last quarter of the 12th century by Sigraf. On-site notes: this font is now very badly worn. The pictorial program reads from left to the right, but only a few scenes can be tentatively identified. Either it was left outside and eroded due to the elements, or it was deliberately destroyed at one point in the past. The three holes in bowl may be the remains of the lid hardware; the metal staples may have cracked the basin, a common enough occurrence; another possibility is that the font was used for farming purposes for a time; finally, those holes may be another example of the deterioration of the sandstone that occurs through the centuries to Gotland sansdtone.
